5 films - 3 days

Hi,

Due to the fact that I returned my one PS3 game to Blockbusters 7 days late they gave me 5 free rentals. I suppose it's to keep you from going to an online rental company with no late fee's.

The 5 films I picked were:

Taken, Twilight, Man on Wire, Burn after reading and Bond, Quantum of Solace.

Watching 5 movies in 3 days was great, writing 5 reviews is nearly impossible at the moment so here is my quick guide the the movies.

Taken: Luc Besson script, expertly directed, tight story and a great (but a tad violent) film

Man on Wire: Won an Oscar, a good documentary but would have fitted in prime time Channel 4.

Twilight: Having seen let the right one in, a massive let down. Dawsons Creek with the damned, meets Cbeebies. A weird one. I think it would have been better if I had been a 14 year-old girl, which I am not.

Quantum of Solace: Not as good as the first Dan Craig outing. Bourne movies did gritty fighty first. Awful ending, but looks great. Style over content.

Burn after reading: This one is great. Really funny, Coen's on top form. Great cast all playing dorks. Ironic, funny and well told. Watch it.

That's all for now. Gonna give my eyes a rest by looking at David Dickinson.

Hi, good week spent working on the script in the evenings after cutting dickinsons real deal in Bristol. Good news for the show that it's getting a 23% share which equates to about 1.3 million people.

New ending on the Memories of the dead story. Should work nicely. dialogue between the characters is flowing.

Also, we proudly welcome our first associate producer! The first of many I hope! check the website to see how you can join in and help us make our movie!!

More when I have it.

New AJA product to transform low budget HD shoots

Hi,

Just got an email from the people at the Broadcast show about this new very exciting product. It records the output of any HD, HDV or SD camera and records it as a FCP friendly ProRes format. All stored on a bus powered Firewire Drive. Wow!

This would save us a huge compression issue when shooting with the Canon HV30. Output from the HDMI socket into the new AJA box and we will have uncompressed HD files AND NO DIGITISING - with a tape backup if anything goes wrong. It's called the KiPro from Aja and it looks special. Check it out.

Aja's photos also feature the little HV30. Amazing.

Real slow week for GGF

Hi,

Well, not a lot has happened with the project - physically.  Mentally, I've been buzzing about it.  It's really starting to make sense, in my head atleast.  I'm talking to more and more people about it now and it's exciting to see people are interested in the idea and want to get involved.

Also, watched Chris Nolan's (Batman Returns, The Presitige, Momento, Insomnia) first film which he shot, directed, edited and wrote the screenplay.  "Following" is amazing for a first film.  Not quite "Blood Simple" amazing, but a good first effort.   The audio commentary from CN was good too.  Nice to hear other people saying exactly the same things that have been buzzing through my head for the last year and a half.

I don't think the industry has changed that much that we cant try and achieve what "Following" achieved.   Shot on 16mm in black and white in 1999, the film resembles an art house noir film from the 50's.  It looks good, sounds great and tells a good story.

So, I'm reading books about scripts.  Perhaps I should just write it already!

Stepping away from the books..... now.

Andy.
